2012 Player Rating And Review - Omar Cummings

Omar Cummings got traded to Houston, but how did he do with the Rapids last season?

Trevor Brown

Through the month of December, Burgundy Wave will do a short review of every player who received even a paltry sum of minutes in 2012. We start with the goalkeepers and then move our way up to the forwards. Today, we'll cover Omar Cummings.

Name: Omar Cummings
Number: 14
Appearances: 28
Stats: 6 goals, 2 assists

I've always been the first guy to rag on Omar Cummings whenever something's gone wrong -- I may have been the one to coin the 'Casey made Cummings' meme, after all -- but I kind of felt sorry for the guy this season. It was obvious even before first kick that the guy wasn't cut out to be a center forward, and all year he resembled Chelsea Fernando Torres more than Liverpool Fernando Torres when put into that position.

When he was finally moved back to a more natural spot outside the center where he could sit back and get space for himself to make runs, he actually did stuff. The guy did put in six goals and two assists this year, so if we were asking for improvement on his awful 2011 season, we got it. So is he ever going to be able to do anything in MLS like he did in 2010? I'm going to go with 'no'.

I guess Houston will find out.

PLAYER RATING: 4.5
