2013 Rapids Player Rating & Review - Edson Buddle

After a pre-season injury knocked him down, Edson Buddle never quite seemed able to get back up again with the Rapids.

As we do every year, through the month of December we'll be doing ratings and reviews of every player who played even a slightly significant amount of minutes for the Colorado Rapids in 2013. We'll start from the goalkeepers and move our way up to the forwards. Today, we'll cover Edson Buddle.

Name: Edson Buddle
Number: 9
Appearances: 24 (1664 minutes)
Stats: 5 goals, 3 assists

Perhaps the most surprising move by the Rapids in the last off-season was bringing in Edson Buddle in a trade from the LA Galaxy. His age was catching up to him for sure, and he was coming off of a year where he struggled to stay on the team sheet in Los Angeles, but he still provided an intriguing replacement at center forward for Conor Casey (and cheaper too!).

Unfortunately, we never really got to see a full-strength Buddle at work. He suffered a knee injury in the preseason while with the US Men's National Team and never seemed to fully recover from it. While his trademarks did occasionally shine through -- excellent hold-up play, solid finishing, great off-the-ball movement to create chances for others -- he seemed out of shape even at his best, and he missed several games with that recurring knee injury.

Still, eight points in 1,600 minutes isn't a horrible return, especially when you consider that you-know-who got fewer points with way more minutes without an injury to speak of.
