Jake Shapiro takes over as site manager of Burgundy Wave

MLS: Playoffs- Semifinals-Portland Timbers at Colorado Rapids Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Hello, my name is Jake Shapiro, and some of you may already know me! If you don’t, well—hi! I’m the new editor of Burgundy Wave, and I am very excited to be involved with this terrific community.

First, I’d like to thank my dear friend Abbie Mood for how well she’s run BW for years. While I was on the Denver Post’s soccer beat, I admired Abbie very much, and she really helped me get to know the club. Replacing her will not be easy!

Like I said, I was on the Post’s soccer beat covering the Colorado Rapids in 2019 and 2020. Most of you may know me from that. I still work over there for my day job, now in breaking news. I also cover college basketball and had covered the Colorado Rockies for many years. What excites me about BW is combining my journalism chops, my love of sports and the fun in all of this.

I’m from Boulder, went to CU and now teach there too. I grew up a Tottenham supporter and have loved every second of getting to know the Rapids. I look forward to seeing you at Dick’s—hopefully at the C38 tailgates! It’ll be fun to be back around the players and staff I’ve built relationships with and to catch games live!

The team at BW is excellent and the content is already so good. I’m just here not to mess it up and have a good time with all of you. I’m going to add some things in the future which hopefully you’ll hear about soon!

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know all of you reading this. For now, the Rapids have a busy offseason following their strong 2021 campaign, and I’ll use my contacts to give you the best information possible.
