Game Recap: Los Angeles FC 2, Colorado Rapids 1

MLS: Colorado Rapids at Los Angeles FC Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

After struggling mightily in the first half, the Colorado Rapids played much better in the second half but it wasn’t enough. In the end, the Burgundy Boys lost 2-1 to LAFC at Banc of California Stadium on Saturday night.

With centerback Lalas Abubakar back to the starting lineup, Rapids head coach Robin Fraser decided to try a 3-man backline with Auston Trusty and Danny Wilson. General confusion with the defense resulted in LAFC’s Diego Rossi scoring the game’s first goal in the 14th minute.

In the 33rd minute, Carlos Vela assisted Rossi’s second goal of the night. Vela had been out with an injury since the first game of the season, but made his return to the starting lineup this evening.

The Rapids came out strong to start the second half and Michael Barrios got his first goal in burgundy in the 50th minute to put Colorado right back in the game.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t find the equalizer. LAFC not only sent the Rapids home empty-handed, but snapped Colorado’s three-game winning streak.
