The Colorado Rapids lost 3-1 in their 2021 home opener to expansion side Austin FC.
The visitors came out strong in the first half, putting the Rapids on their heels, but the Burgundy Boys eventually settled down and has some control of the game. After much back and forth, Andre Shinyashiki finally got the home side on the scoreboard in the 36th minute off a corner kick from Jack Price.

Austin came out swinging again in the second half and this time the Rapids couldn’t hold them off, allowing three goals in 11 minutes. Former New England Revolution midfielder Diego Fagundez kicked things off in the 60th minute, followed by a brace from Designated Player Cecilio Domínguez.
In the 67th minute, Fagundez stole the ball from Cole Bassett and passed it in to Jon Gallagher who either misplayed the ball or laid it off to Dominguez.

Four minutes later, some good ball movement and another goal gave the away side a 3-1 lead.

The Rapids never recovered after the first goal and at the end of 90 minutes the final score stuck at 3-1.
