Jack Price on Decision Day: “It’ll have a playoff feel.”

MLS: Seattle Sounders FC at Colorado Rapids Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

With Decision Day looming over MLS, the Colorado Rapids find themselves on the cusp of the top seed in the Western Conference with a win in the Regular Season finale at home against LAFC. Granted, some other results still need to go their way, but the Rapids haven’t had this chance so close to their grasp since 2016, and Captain Jack Price is ready to use to show the league they are ready.

“The most important thing for me and the group of players is performance. Play well in front of our fans, but for ourselves knowing we’re ready two or three weeks down the line when the playoffs begin, we need to play well for ourselves,” Price told Burgundy Wave. “We need to take care of our business.”

Sunday’s opponent LAFC, is a bit of a surprise with their points total putting them below the playoff line, but Price knows that is a bit deceiving to the casual onlooker from outside the organization.

“We always say in this league any team is a tough opponent, and they’re no different there. They’ve got a great coach, they’ve got some great players with speed in the team, and they need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. We know it’s not going to be a walkover,” he honestly admits. “It’ll have a playoff feel.”

As far as what the Rapids need from their own play this afternoon, Price outlines things simply as taking advantage of being home and doing what they know they can and well. “Have an attitude, that mentality of a game where it will be tough — we have to defend well, we have to be good on the ball, no silly turnovers. There’s times this year, me included, we’ve given away cheap possession, and especially here we need to use that more with the altitude. We need to make that team run.”

“We know we need to be at our very best to nullify their threats and play our stuff because we’ve still got a lot on the line, hopefully finishing top of the West. We’ve said all week to treat this like a playoff game because you never know you might see them in a couple of weeks.”
