The Colorado Rapids have added an MLS veteran to their roster today, acquiring midfielder/winger Michael Barrios from FC Dallas in exchange for an international roster spot and the 15th overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft. The Rapids also gained the 21st overall pick in the draft.
The 29-year-old Barrios has been with Dallas since he came to MLS in 2015 and is the club’s second all-time leader in combined goals and assists (75). He’s been among the league’s top assist leaders twice: T-4 in 2017 and T-3 in 2019. He primarily played on the wing for Dallas but can also play a more forward role.

“We’re excited to reinforce our roster with a player of Michael’s quality,” said Pádraig Smith, Colorado Rapids Executive VP & General Manager, in the press release. “Michael has consistently been among the top chance creators in this league and offers blistering pace that’s hard to match. We believe he’ll be a strong addition to our group as we build toward next season.”
Barrios is from Colombia, but got his green card in 2018 and thus does not require an international roster spot.
