Game Preview & How to Watch: Colorado Rapids at LA Galaxy

The Colorado Rapids travel to Southern California to take on the LA Galaxy tonight for another opportunity to climb up in the standings. The Western Conference is a tight one with the Galaxy in 5th place with 15 points and the Rapids sitting below the playoff line with 13. There is a 10 point difference between first-place Seattle Sounders and last-place San Jose Earthquakes (who the Rapids play on Wednesday) so it really can be anybody’s race.

The Galaxy are on a six-game unbeaten streak, while the Rapids are more up and down having tied, won, and lost in their last three.

Colorado shook things up a bit by sending Kei Kamara to Minnesota for a 2022 draft pick and some Garber bucks. This did not come as a complete shock as it seemed Kamara was falling out of favor lately having only started one game in recent weeks. Kei was also going to be out of contract at the end of the season, only time will tell who got the better end of the deal.

The big name on the Galaxy roster is Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, who has been out with a calf injury since the MLS is Back Tournament, but did get on the pitch last week for the last 33 minutes in a 0-0 draw with San Jose. It is unlikely that he will start, but the chances of seeing him join the game in the second half are good. The Galaxy also have Perry Kitchen, Sebastian Lletget, and Cristian Pavon, so tight man-marking will be key for the Burgundy Boys.

The Rapids roster is young and have been able to shake off poor form and break a curse or two, it could be in the cards for this Rapids side to snag three points on the road this week. If they can come out like they did against Real Salt Lake, Colorado could make a statement that they are not to be taken lightly.
