The Colorado Rapids host Sporting Kansas City tonight at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park for somewhat of a revenge match. The last time these two teams met it was in Orlando for the MLS is Back Tournament and the result did not go the Rapids’ way. Two red cards, a bad call on a handball, and a back-and-forth game had some of the Burgundy Boys feeling like the game was fixed. A win tonight is just what they need to snap out of their current form.

Sporting KC lost 5-2 at home last week to the Houston Dynamo, but remain at the top of the Western Conference table with a 7-5-2 record and 15 points. For the Rapids, history has them favored at home against Sporting—the Rapids are 18-5-10 all-time against the former Wiz. (Read more about SKC in this week’s Downstream.)

In Frisco on Wednesday, Auston Trusty was set to make a start and many fans would love to see that happen tonight. Cole Bassett was also due to be in the lineup on Wednesday, which would give the youngster another shot at providing some much-needed creativity on the attacking side of the pitch.

One last final note, Armando Villarreal and Allen Chapman’s officiating may have more of an influence over the result than we’d like based on their previous bodies of work.
