Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas are coming up tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. ET (Rounds 3 and 4 are on Monday, January 13) and will be streamed on MLS and ESPN, which means you can follow along on the ESPN App, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. You can also follow the Draft Tracker here.
The Colorado Rapids have the 11th overall pick in the first round and the 37th overall pick in the second round. The second round pick was part of the trade with Sporting Kansas City last May when they acquired Abdul Rwatubyaye (who has since been on loan to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks of the USL).
Remember the 2019 SuperDraft? You should, for that’s where the Rapids picked the 2019 Rookie of the Year Andre Shinyashiki with the fifth overall pick. His 31 appearances (with 18 starts), seven goals, and three assists provided a great boon to the Rapids comeback after the firing of newly-minted USMNT U-20 coach Anthony Hudson.
Many of the eligible players participated in the inaugural 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase back in December and there are no Colorado schools represented this year. Read more about the top prospects here.
Rounds 3 and 4 are held via conference call on Monday, January 13. The Rapids will have the 63rd, 87th, and 89th overall picks.
