The wait is over, Rapids fans. The Colorado Rapids announced that they have signed a Designated Player: attacking midfielder Younes Namli. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because rumors went around Twitter earlier this month about the signing, but we never heard anything official.

The contract is still pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa, but it looks like the Rapids have signed a DP on a two-year loan with an option to buy.

Padraig Smith and the FO have had their eyes on Namli for the past two years and feel that he is a “talented and technically gifted playmaker... He’s been a consistently strong performer in the Eredivisie, a league we believe translates well to MLS, and has shown a great ability on the ball and in creating clear scoring opportunities for his teammates as well as getting on the scoresheet himself. We’re excited to finally have him join the club and expect him to be a difference maker for us.”

The 25-year-old has spent time with Dutch Eredivisie clubs HC Heerenveen and PEC Zwolle, and most recently played for FC Krasnodar in the Russian Premier League, who finished second place in the domestic standings. Krasnodar also played in UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League matches last season.
