It did not look good at first for the Colorado Rapids. Eighteen minutes in, Kei Kamara tried to clear the ball but instead bounced it past Tim Howard and into the back of the net for the Rapids’ 6th own goal of the season. The Burgundy Boys responded quickly, forcing Montreal Impact goalkeeper Evan Bush to get an own goal on the other end.
After that, the Rapids opened the game up, destroying Montreal down the middle time and time again. Kamara scored in the 36th minute on a penalty kick and added another in the first minute of stoppage time. Diego Rubio got his 6th goal of the season in the 4th minute of stoppage time to put Colorado up 4-1 at the end of the first half.
Tim Howard came out as a precaution to start the second half and Maximiliano Urruti had plenty of space to blast it far post and add another for Montreal in the 55th minute. In the 76th minute, Montreal was awarded a penalty kick (and Kellyn Acosta picked up a yellow for the foul) that Saphir Taïder converted. Tommy Smith subbed out as a precaution after the PK due to tightness in his right groin. Also towards the end of the game, Danny Wilson was taking goal kicks for Clint Irwin, so we may have an interesting goalkeeper situation on our hands.
The seventh goal of the game came off a corner kick to Andre Shinyashiki and the eighth and final goal was Kamara’s third in the 90th minute.
