The San Jose Earthquakes have show the MLS world that they are for real, winning eight out of their last eleven matches, the last of which came at the expense of our Colorado Rapids to the tune of 3-1.
The first goal came thanks to an own goal by the Rapids’ Lalas Abubakar who struggled with a low cross from Cristian Espinoza which shot off the outside of his right foot. Irwin had no chance.
The next two goals by Vako and Shea Salinas showed the significant skill the Quakes have inside the box. Vako’s ability to evade Rapids defenders in tight quarters, followed by a bouncing curler around Irwin was a sight to behold. Later in the second half, Salinas was able to evade numerous burgundy boys to slide it past Irwin.
Diego Rubio put the Rapids on the board late, but the damage was done.
The Earthquakes sit 4th in the Western Conference with a 11W-7L-4D record (37 points), while the Rapids return to the cellar of the West with a 5-12-5 record (20 points).
The Rapids play the Montreal Impact on Saturday, August 3rd at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Kickoff is just after 7 PM.
