#ORLvCOL Game Recap: Orlando City 4, Colorado Rapids 3

An entertaining game, but once again, the Colorado Rapids find themselves on the losing side of the ledger.

Yes, the Colorado Rapids played better, but not enough to win in Orlando, as the Rapids lose 4-3 to Orlando City SC at Orlando City Stadium. This was quite an entertaining game.

9’ | The first half started brightly for the Rapids. After a beautiful build-up, Dillon Serna flicked the ball into the box where Kei Kamara scored in the 9th minute—his 115th goal of his MLS career, putting him alone in 5th all-time.

31’ | Orlando City got on the board with a set piece in which Juan Moutinho crossed to Nani, who headed it in and opened his MLS account to tie it at 1-1. Even though three Rapids players were in his area, no one marked him well and Nani used his height to beat the diminutive Dillon Serna.

33’ | Orlando went up 2-1 of a counter from a Rapids corner, which OCSC’s Ruan sped up the right side as the Rapids defense. A cross snuck through the box, where Orlando City’s Dom Dwyer gathered and shot on goal. Howard saved it, but the Rapids defense did not cover the front of goal, allowing Tesho Akindele to put it in the back of the net.

After an hour-plus weather delay due to lightning, the match resumed at approximately 7:37 p.m. MT.

59’ | Rosenberry sent one in where Kamara took flight, only to have Brian Rowe gather it. This is the second time that fans have seen how great Kamara’s aerial game is.

61’ | Goal! Kellyn Acosta won the ball in his own half, speeding up the middle and bringing in the defense. Acosta gave it to Cole Bassett on the right in space, who then assisted Nicolas Mezquida, who was all by himself and opened up his account for the Rapids. The match was tied 2-2.

71’ | Goal, Colorado! Cole Bassett found himself open on the right again, got himself free, and scored from 15 yards out to the top left corner. Wow! Rapids up 3-2!

72’ | Rapids substitution: Sam Nicholson came in for Benny Feilhaber.

79’ | Save, Colorado! Howard gathers a potentially dicey chance from OCSC’s Dom Dwyer.

81’ | Goal, Orlando City. The Rapids were a mess in the box. Sjoberg came over to help, but then both centerbacks were on the same side of the field. OCSC’s Chris Mueller, just subbed on, got it past Howard. Now tied 3-3!

83’ | Almost a repeat of the first half, when the Rapids gave up two in quick succession with a Dwyer cross. Things got a bit nervy at this point.

83’ | Sub for the Rapids: Andre Shinyashiki on for Mezquida.

84’ | Another close one for Orlando City! Deklan Wynne cleared it nicely off the line.

89’ | Oh no! Penalty! Axel Sjoberg gives up another penalty on a handball. Nani sends Howard the wrong way and put Orlando City back in front 4-3.

And after four minutes of stoppage time, the Rapids remain winless, while Orlando City got their first home win. The Rapids fall to 0-4-2 with two tough matches coming up with the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday and D.C. United on Saturday, both at home.
