The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that they have acquired Cesar Romero (full name César Miguel Romero Moncada) on loan from F.C. Motagua of the Liga Nacional, Honduras’ top division.
The 20-year-old comes on loan from a dominant F.C. Motagua, who have won the Liga Nacional 4 of the past 5 seasons. He also has starred in the Honduran U20 team and is expected to play in the upcoming U20 World Cup in May this year in Poland.
A dominant striker has been one of the teams shakiest needs for the past several years, and the team hopes Romero is the one to fill that role. “We are excited to acquire a young player with so much potential,” said Switchbacks Team General Manager, Brian Crookham. “Cesar is a talented striker who has shown the ability to be a constant threat in the final third. His ability to create off the dribble and movement through the box will give us another game-changing option up front.”
Diez Juan Carlos Suazo, financial president of the Motagua, told Honduran website Diez “It’s a new club project to send young people so they can prepare better and be good buying options in MLS and/or Europe. Both César Romero and Jack Baptiste [who was loaned to USL Championship team Loudon FC] are going to borrow with an option to buy and Motagua always maintains a percentage.”
As always, the transfer is pending USL Championship and USSF approval.
