The Colorado Rapids have sent goalkeeper Clint Irwin and defender Kofi Opare to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks for a single-game loan this weekend. The Rapids have also recalled goalkeeper Andre Rawls back to Denver for their upcoming home match against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, March 17th at 7:00 pm.

Clint Irwin was traded by the Rapids to Toronto FC before the 2016 season after three solid seasons and being selected as an All-Star in 2015. Irwin’s tenure with Toronto FC included two trips to MLS Cup in 2016 and 2017, winning the latter, one Supporter’s Shield (2017), and three Canadian Championships (2016, 2017, 2018). Irwin returned to the Rapids in the offseason in hopes of bolstering the roster at goalkeeper.

Defender Kofi Opare joined the Rapids after four seasons with DC United (2015-2018). His best season was 2017, when he played in 26 regular season games. The Rapids obtained Opare in hopes of adding depth to the bench for the backline. Opare has been out with an injury, so it’s likely that the club sent him to the Switchbacks to put in some time and see if he is match fit.

Goalkeeper Andre Rawls spent three years with New York City FC, mostly on loan to Orange County SC of the USL.

The Switchbacks play Sacramento Republic at home this Saturday, March 16th at 5:00 p.m.

The Rapids host Sporting Kansas City Sunday, March 17 at 7:00 PM at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
