A little over a month ago, it was reported that the Colorado Rapids were signing former-DC United defender Kofi Opare. We didn’t hear much about it and then he showed up on the preseason invitee list and in Kei Kamara’s Instagram stories. Today, the Rapids announced that they have signed the centerback to a one-year contract.

“Kofi is a talented centerback who will help bring depth and experience to our back line,” said Rapids Executive Vice President & General Manager, Pádraig Smith. “He has spent the majority of preseason training with the team, so he has already integrated himself into our group and has adapted well to our style of play and tactics.”

The 28-year-old had 65 appearances in five seasons with D.C. United, and most recently had two surgeries at the end of 2018. He was born in Ghana, but does not require an international spot.
