Yesterday, MLS announced Andre Shinyashiki as one of the three finalists for Rookie of the Year with Brenden Aaronson of the Philadelphia Union and Hassani Dotson of Minnesota United FC.
This morning, MLS announced that Colorado Rapids’ very own Andre Shinyashiki had won Rookie of the Year!
Expectations were high for Shinyashiki from the very beginning. After a solid career at the University of Denver, the Rapids traded their 15th overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and $100,000 in GAM to the Chicago Fire to secure the 5th pick, which they used to draft Shinyashiki.
He made an impact from the very first game, scoring the tying goal in #SnowClasico3 in the last minute of stoppage time in his MLS debut.

The Brazilian then scored the game-winning goal on May 19th against the LA Galaxy in the 82nd minute to secure the club’s first win of the season.
The Brazilian went on to earn seven goals and three assists this year in 31 games (18 from the start).
Other notes from this season:
- MLS Team of the Week in Week 14 (against FC Cincinnati) and Week 27 (against the Seattle Sounders)
- MLS Player of the Week in Week 27 for his brace against the Sounders
- Surpassed 1,000 career minutes against the San Jose Earthquakes on August 10th
Congratulations Andre! We can’t wait to see what you will do next season!
