The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC revealed the re-signing of midfielder Jordan Schweitzer at a fan event at Jack Quinn’s Irish Pub Thursday night.

The 24-year-old Schweitzer started his career in the Seattle Sounders’ system playing with their U23 team and Sounders 2 from 2013-2016. After a one-year stint with Orlando City B, he joined the Switchbacks in 2017. Schweitzer also had four appearances for the Canadian U23 team in 2017.

Schweitzer was a three-time All-Summit League First Team selection at the University of Denver, starting 70 of his 73 appearances across four collegiate seasons from 2012 to 2015. He led the Pioneers to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

Despite not scoring any goals in 2018 for Colorado Springs, Schweitzer was an integral part of the team’s midfield, featuring in all 34 games. He led the team in passes with 1503, with 84% accuracy and accumulating 3 assists. In addition to his offensive output, he also was second on the team in interceptions with 71, and third in tackles and tackles won (52/37).

”Schweitzer was my top priority in bringing him back in 2019. He was our key player in the midfield last season and it was important to have him return,” said Switchbacks head coach, Steve Trittschuh. “I expect big things out of him this season.”

”I’m excited to be back and to be playing for a playoff spot. There were positives to take away from last season, but the fact of the matter is we didn’t perform consistently enough to make the playoffs. I know us players will be hungry this season,” said Schweitzer. “I’m excited to be back in the community for a second season. I’m thrilled to be back playing with some fantastic players that have re-signed, an to build on the relationships in the community. There are many ways athletes can play an active role in their communities and that’s one thing I hope to accomplish off the field this season.”

The return of Schweitzer brings the total number of announced signings to 10. With the partnership with the Colorado Rapids, it’s expected that new General Manager Brian Crookham will begin filling out the roster as the season approaches. The team has scheduled open tryouts the weekend of January 26th and 27th and announced that at least one player will be signed from the tryout.

The Switchbacks will open the 2019 season on the road on March 9th at Los Angeles Galaxy II, before returning to open at home on March 16th against Sacramento Republic FC at Weidner Field.
