After struggling to see the pitch in 2018, midfielder Marlon Hairston has been traded to Houston Dynamo for $175,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) payable $125,000 in 2019 and $50,000 in 2020.

Hairston was drafted 12th overall by the Colorado Rapids in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft and had 95 appearances (68 starts), putting in seven goals and adding 13 assists.

“We want to thank Marlon for five great seasons,” said Rapids Executive Vice President & General Manager, Pádraig Smith. “He is a top professional on and off the pitch and we wish him all the best in this next step of his career.”

Fans often wondered why Hairston didn’t get much playing time last season, wondering if he was somehow on Anthony Hudson’s bad side. It would appear that his lack of playing time ended up impacting his value since the Rapids gave him away for just $175K. With the acquisition of Keegan Rosenberry, it seemed as though Marly’s time in Colorado was limited, so unfortunately, this news doesn’t come as a huge surprise.

Good luck in Houston, Marly - we’ll miss you!
