The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC confirmed today that goalkeeper Steward Ceus will be returning for the 2019 season. The 31-year-old keeper enters the second year of a 2-year contract.
The New York native was drafted in the third round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids, making nine appearances from 2009-2013. He has made 11 appearances for the Haitian National Team, including selections for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup and 2016 Copa America Centenario. Prior to joining the Switchbacks in 2018, Ceus played for the NASL champion San Francisco in 2017, in what proved to be the final year of operations for the league.
In 2018, the 6’6” Ceus split time in the net with Cameroonian International Moise Pouaty, making 17 appearances that included four clean sheets.
“I am looking forward to coming in this season and continuing to compete daily,” said Ceus in a statement released by the team. “I would like to thank all the Switchbacks fans for all of the support last season, and I can’t wait to build on last year.”
With the return of Steward Ceus, this brings the total number of announced players for 2019 to 9. With the partnership with the Colorado Rapids, its expected that new General Manager Brian Crookham will begin filling out the roster as the season approaches. The team has scheduled open tryouts the weekend of January 26th and 27th and has announced a player signing event for fans at Jack Quinn’s Irish Pub on January 17th at 5:30pm.
The Switchbacks will open the 2019 season on the road March 9th at Los Angeles Galaxy II, before returning to open at home on March 16th against Sacramento Republic FC at Weidner Field.
