Today, the club confirmed that the free agent has been signed to a one-year contract with an option for the 2020 season.
Rapids Executive Vice President & General Manager, Pádraig Smith feels that “Benny is a creative and experienced MLS veteran. He is a player that will help balance our midfield and contribute to the scoresheet.”
Rapids fans should be familiar with Feilhaber, as he was with Sporting Kansas City for four years before signing with Los Angeles FC last season. The 33-year-old (soon to be 34) was a regular starter and key member of the attack for both SKC and LAFC, and in 2015 he was one of the three finalists for the league MVP award.
Feilhaber started his MLS career with New England Revolution in 2011 and in his eight MLS seasons, the Brazilian has accumulated 37 goals and 56 assists.
One of the positions that the Rapids still need to fill is the #10 spot. Many of us assumed that Nicolas Mezquida would be a temporary bandaid for that position until more money was freed up next season, but given his experience, it would seem as though Feilhaber is our new #10.
