The Colorado Rapids (6-14-6, W-L-T) travel to the Pacific to face Western Conference foe Portland Timbers (12-9-5) at Providence Park, where the Timbers are on a seven-game winning streak against the boys in burgundy. The Rapids all-time are 7-9-3 against the Timbers.
August wasn’t all that kind to the Timbers, as they dropped four straight games, but are on better form with a win and a draw in the last two games. This has left them sixth in the West, one point above the playoff line, one point ahead of Vancouver and three points ahead of LA Galaxy.
Colorado hopes to get in a better run of form and recover from the atrocity of their last match against Real Salt Lake, where they were reduced to 9 players and lost 6-0 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The Rapids also need some offense, having scored 31 goals for the season, tied for fewest in MLS. The Rapids recalled Caleb Calvert and Sam Hamilton off loan from Charlotte Independence and Colorado Springs Switchbacks, respectively.
And now, the starting lineup for your Colorado Rapids:
You’ll notice that Giles Barnes and Shkelzen Gashi and in the Starting XI and that Marlon Hairston is back on the bench. We shall see how this crew performs against the Timbers and that environment.
