It’s game 2 of the 2018 Rocky Mountain Cup and the Colorado Rapids are in Sandy, Utah to take on Real Salt Lake. In the first game of the RMC in April, the Rapids lost 3-0. They held RSL to 0-0 with 10 men after a Tim Howard red card in the 20th minute, but in the 80th minute the floodgates opened after a Tommy Smith handball in the box gave Salt Lake a penalty kick.
Here’s hoping tonight has a much better result.
Real Salt Lake has a slew of injuries and Head Coach Mike Petke is suspended for his outburst in their last match.
The Rapids are without Giles Barnes after his ankle injury last week, Dominique Badji is in Senegal working on his green card, and Shkelzen Gashi is in Switzerland for a family emergency. Gashi is expected to return on Monday and will play against Boca Juniors. Barnes and Badji will hopefully be back for next week as well.
Marlon Hairston is on the bench and Dillon Serna returns to the 18 this week.
