Rapids and Aigner mutually agree to terminate contract

#AignerGate is over.

MLS: Concacaf Champions League-Toronto FC at Colorado Rapids Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

And with that, #AignerGate is over.

The Colorado Rapids announced today that the club and Stefan Aigner came to a mutual agreement to terminate his contract. That’s all they said about the matter.

The relationship between Aigner and new head coach Anthony Hudson has been an ongoing saga since he was kicked out? left? practice early a couple of months ago. Since then, he had been seen infrequently at practice and wasn’t even making the game day 18. Hudson cited “fitness issues” and a lack of “willingness to help the team.”

Aigner declined all media requests and was working on his own training schedule, but apparently the two parties couldn’t work out their differences.

If they agreed to terminate the contract, I’m guessing the Rapids aren’t eating any of it? I’ll update this post if/when I get more information. UPDATE: When I asked for more details about the termination, the Rapids declined to comment on the terms of the contract.

Aigner posted this goodbye on Instagram:

Thanks for all and good luck for the rest of the season!! #coloradorapids
