#COLvMIN Takeaway: 10 Questions, Comments, and Concerns

The Rapids win over Minnesota United 3-2 last weekend. Here are some of our thoughts.

Some questions, concerns, and comments from the South Stands after the Colorado Rapids took care of business to win 3-2 against Minnesota United on a beautiful night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

  1. Shouldn’t MLS should just award Edgar Castillo Goal of the Week? (Yes, they should, but unfortunately he needs our votes.)
  2. After Danny Wilson was hit, seeing the rest of the Rapids (led by Jack Price) come to his aid just warms the cockles of the heart. The way it should be!
  3. How happy we were to see Tommy Smith finally get the fruit of his reward for his hard play in the box. How many times has he gotten his head on a set piece only to barely miss wide?
  4. As soon as Shkelzen Gashi and Joe Mason came in, they made immediate (and ultimately winning) impacts. If they are healthy and clearly have the talent, why wait so long to bring them in? Why are they not in the starting XI? What are we missing?
  5. The Rapids outshot Minnesota United 24-12 with seven landing on target, compared to eight for MUFC. The Rapids took 13 corners to Minnesota’s 3, showing better aggressiveness and playing more entertaining soccer.
  6. Jack Price and Edgar Castillo had fantastic Audi Player Index ratings (889 and 716, respectively). Impressive!
  7. The Rapids passed the statistical and the proverbial eyeball test. One wonders if Stefan Aigner’s departure has helped the tone of the locker room.
  8. Why did Castillo run over to Conor Casey after his goal? (At least it looked like Casey from my vantage point!)
  9. We love Enzo Martinez’s pace, but does his hyperactive motor hurt his ability to hold the ball and connect on passes? Could slowing down just a tick help him with control in the long term?
  10. I hesitate to say that I will be firmly seated in the south stands on Wednesday, July 4, as the Rapids take on the Seattle Sounders. I hesitate because the three home games I’ve missed, the Rapids have won. I plan on being there for a win and some of the best fireworks around! Because America!
