The Colorado Rapids (2-3-2) travel to the Cauldron (a.k.a., Children’s Mercy Park) to take on Sporting Kansas City (5-2-2). The last time the Rapids played SKC was March 28th at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, where the Rapids gave up a 2-0 lead to end in a draw 2-2.
The Rapids, fresh off another late defeat (this time to Orlando City SC), bring a starting eleven that has Tim Howard back in goal as well as new acquisition Sam Nicholson in midfield. Kip Colvey gets the start as well in place of injured Nana Boateng. A surprise for Rapids supporters would be seeing Jack McBean paired with Dominique Badji, with Joe Mason and Yannick Boli on the bench.
Sporting Kansas City find themselves atop the Western Conference with 17 points (5-2-2). They are unbeaten in their last four home matches (3W-1D), outscoring their opponents 12-4 in that span. They lead the West with 20 goals scored, with Johnny Russell coming along nicely leading the charge of late.
The Rapids Starting XI (3-5-2):
Dominique Badji-Jack McBean
Edgar Castillo-Sam Nicholson-Jack Price-Enzo Martinez-Kip Colvey
Tommy Smith-Danny Wilson-Deklan Wynne
Tim Howard
BENCH: Michael Azira, Yannick Boli, Sam Hamilton, Zac MacMath, Joe Mason, Dillon Serna, Axel Sjoberg
