Game Preview: Colorado Rapids vs. Portland Timbers

While the Rapids are on a 5-game losing streak, the Timbers have won their last 5.

Rose City FC (better known as the Portland Timbers) is in town to take on the Colorado Rapids Saturday and the Burgundy Boys are looking to end their 5-game losing skid. They will have their work cut out for them as the Timbers are on a hot streak and have won their last five.

The Rapids are 7-8-3 overall against Portland with six of those wins coming at home. This matchup typically goes to the home team seeing as the Rapids have won in Portland just once. Last year both teams managed a 2-1 win at home and the Rapids faithful will be hoping for the same thing this year.

The Timbers will have to go at it without the services of Liam Ridgewell, who had to leave last week’s game with a quad injury. His absence wasn’t too vital as the Timbers still went on to victory last week despite Ridgewell leaving in the sixth minute.

As for the Rapids’ injuries, Johan Blomberg is still not quite ready. He’s working hard and you can tell he misses game day. The team misses his production as the Rapids have not scored more than one goal a game since his absence. Both Marlon Hairston and Kortne Ford are close and making progress in practice. Jack Price will also return from serving his yellow card suspension.

Shkelzen Gashi is poised to get into the starting XI up top with Joe Mason sliding out to the wing. After dropping points five games in a row and not even being in the contest last week, it’s time for Gashi to get his chance.

We’ve heard Coach Hudson talk about giving guys chances and while we’ve seen some get a few more chances on game day than others, if you are getting the same results with the same lineup it’s about time to change some things.

The team knows what they are up against, as they now must average two points per game for the rest of the season in order for the Front Office’s promise of playoffs to come true, so three points today are vital. This season the club is really relying on the fans and the supporters culture, so if anything the Burgundy Boys will want to go 150% today in front of the home crowd.

Predicted starting XI: Tim Howard, Deklan Wynne, Danny Wilson, Tommy Smith, Nana Boateng, Enzo Martinez, Jack Price, Joe Mason, Edgar Castillo, Dom Badji, Shkelzen Gashi
