Burgundy Boys on Loan, Week 11

Can’t make the Rapids match this weekend? Well, there are plenty of chances to see Rapids players on loan in USL

MLS: Houston Dynamo at Colorado Rapids Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Rapids are in action this weekend against Portland Timbers in their annual Memorial Day game at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. It will be a good opportunity for the Burgundy Boys to get on track, but if you are unable to get to Commerce City, there are some great chances to see some good young talent on display in USL.

Swope Park Rangers (4-2-4, 16 points) vs Phoenix Rising FC (6-2-3, 21 points)

Location: Children’s Mercy Park, Kansas City, Kansas—3:00 PM MDT

What to Watch For: Mike da Fonte is on loan with Phoenix Rising FC and he is having himself a pretty dang good year in defense. (And as bad as the Rapids have been on defense, you’d think that he’d get a look in Colorado). Da Fonte has started and played in all 11 matches, amassing 964 minutes for the second-ranked club in USL.

Richmond Kickers (3-4-1, 10 points) vs Charlotte Independence (4-3-2, 14 points)

Location: City Stadium, Richmond, Virginia—5:00 PM MDT

What to Watch For: The Jacks have had an up and down season and have seemed to have righted the ship and feature Andrew Dykstra, Sam Vines, Ricardo Perez and Caleb Calvert on loan. Dykstra, Vines, and Calvert have all started at least seven games. Perez has made seven substitute appearances this season in Charlotte.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (4-6-2, 14 points) vs Saint Louis FC (3-2-5, 14 points)

Location: Weidner Field, Colorado Springs, Colorado—6:00 PM MDT

What to Watch For: The Switchbacks have Sam Hamilton and Niki Jackson on loan and both have seen time off and on this season. Colorado Springs have been very inconsistent but find themselves on the right side of the red line in the USL Western Conference. This is a big one for Colorado Springs and a good chance to get some momentum as the USL seasons enters its second third.

Happy Memorial Weekend all!!!
