In Leg 1 of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16, Toronto FC came to Colorado to play the Rapids on a (very) frigid night in Commerce City. The Burgundy Boys put up a solid fight in the first half, but started to get tired and break down in the second half, allowing TFC to get two away goals for a final score of 2-0. After the match, Rapids Head Coach Anthony Hudson said that while they wanted to win, the focus was on the pre-season and getting the guys fit, which was why he didn’t sub out any players.
Last year, the Rapids got away with a 1-1 draw in Toronto, but the Reds were missing Jozy Altidore or Michael Bradley.
In our game preview, Brendan Wyatt suspected that we might see the two newest players to join the squad, and sure enough, Danny Wilson is in the Starting XI. While the Rapids are clearly still trying to see who might work together best, TFC is coming out with all of their starters again.
Note: Stefan Aigner and Nana Boateng are in their home countries working on their green cards, so they did not go to Toronto with the club.
