After Cole Bassett posted a story on his Instagram that he was in Germany, rumors began to fly that he was trialing with a Bundesliga club. It turns out that he and fellow Colorado Rapids homegrown player Sam Vines are actually training with SC Freiburg, who were promoted from 2. Bundesliga in 2016. Freiburg is currently 11th place in the standings after 11 matches.

A Rapids spokesperson told MLSSoccer.com that “Sam Vines and Cole Bassett are in Germany training with Freiburg for 10 days as part of their offseason player development plan. We are happy that they get to have this opportunity, as they continue to grow as professional footballers.”

The last time we saw a Rapids player training with a Bundesliga side in the offseason was Stefan Aigner this past January. Whether Bassett and Vines are looking to get some international exposure or just taking the opportunity to train with an international team, it was definitely a wise move for the young players.
