The Colorado Rapids extended their current losing streak to seven in a row tonight thanks to a 3-0 loss to Los Angeles FC (Catch the highlights here). At times, there was some of the best ball movement we’ve seen from the Burgundy Boys lately, but it wasn’t nearly enough to get three points (or even one for that matter).

First Half

LAFC started out with a high intensity and early in the half Diego Rossi got a 1-on-1 against Tim Howard but kicked it just wide. The Rapids had a few glimmers of hope, including a solid defensive effort by Axel Sjoberg and Tommy Smith in the 12th minute, but unfortunately, it was only a matter of time before LA got their first goal. In the 15th minute, Walker Zimmerman put a header past Howard off a corner.

The Rapids responded with pressure and were able to get a couple corner kicks in a row. Kellyn Acosta hit the crossbar on the last one, but it bounced out and gave LA a goal kick. After that, LA allowed Colorado to have possession behind the 50-yard-line, but held them off from making any movement into the final third.

Giles Barnes was making a run in the 33rd minute on a long ball and was dragged down by a defender, but the ref chose not call it and LA was able to take it the other way.

In the 42nd minute, LA got through the defense again and Lee Nguyen passed it to Adama Diomande, who had no problem blasting it into the back of the net to put LAFC up 2-0.

Colorado had a chance in stoppage time when Barnes crossed the ball into the box, but Johan Blomberg wasn’t fast enough to get on it and it ended up as a wasted opportunity.

Second Half

There were no subs to start the second half, but Diomande skipped a goal past Howard to put LA up 3-0 in the 48th minute.

After the goal, Coach Hudson subbed out Blomberg and Barnes to bring in Niki Jackson and Yannick Boli. Around the 60th minute, Boli was in a great position but couldn’t get on the ball. He got the ball again in the box in the 73rd minute but instead of shooting, took a couple touches. One of them was very bad and LA cleared it out.

Hudson used his third and final sub in the 74th minute to bring in Cole Bassett for Gashi.

Boli continued to be the only offensive player to get any dangerous looks and his last opportunity was a header in the 84th minute that went wide. Right before the end of the second half, Edgar Castillo took a shot to the far post and just missed.

At the end of the night, the Rapids were shut out and continued their losing streak. They have now been outscored 22-1 in the last seven games, with three games left on the season (Minnesota United, San Jose Earthquakes, and FC Dallas).
