Eighty minutes of this game was similar to last week - boring and painful to watch. The Colorado Rapids had 11 players out due to injury this game so a rough start was somewhat expected.
The Rapids midfield looked disorganized and overwhelmed, no one was making runs to get in the box or attempt to score, and FC Dallas was running the game. In the 18th minute, Maximiliano Urruti put Dallas on the scoreboard first thanks for an assist from Dominique Badji.
Right before the end of the first half, Dallas was awarded a penalty kick but the call was reversed after a video review.
The second half went about the same as the first, and then in the 80th minute Cole Bassett got his very first goal as a professional. It was gorgeous:
Just four minutes later, Tommy Smith added another goal to put the Burgundy Boys up 2-1. Dallas ran it back up the other way, but Axel Sjoberg had a great block to save the potential tying goal. After four minutes of stoppage time, the Rapid pulled out a win for Fan Appreciation Day and ended the last game of the season on a high note and a three-game unbeaten streak.
