The occasion? A 2019 US Open Cup Round Two qualifier
Eric Fulton, President of FC Denver, has written a wonderful article that encapsulates the history of this rivalry. While FC Denver has a strong winning percentage against other teams in the Colorado Premier League, Harpos FC has just as strong a winning percentage against FC Denver. Every time these two teams play, it’s a fight to the very end.
Even with their history, this qualifier stands as the first match between these two teams on such an important stage, so this is sure to be an exciting game.
Harpos has risen in popularity locally for their previous US Open Cup success, making it to the second round in the 2016 and 2017 USOCs, and then losing to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks both times. This year, Harpos didn’t make it past the first round, but FC Denver made it to the second round and also lost to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks.
It looks like the weather is going to be wonderful this weekend to take in some local soccer so head on over to Aurora on Sunday and see these two Colorado Premier League foes battle it out.
A few things to know if you go:
- Bring chairs/seats - there aren’t any bleachers.
- All fans must sit on opposite side of field from teams (or on grass area behind south goal).
- There are bathrooms on-site.
- No alcohol is allowed at the facility.
