In their second hiring announcement this week, the Colorado Rapids have named Chad Kolarcik as Head of Sports Science & Performance. Kolarcik has been with the Seattle Sounders for the past six years, including as their strength and conditioning coach. He’s also worked with the LA Galaxy.
According to the announcement:
“Kolarcik will oversee the Rapids’ medical and sports science departments, including trainers, strength and conditioning personnel and external consultants in order to create more intelligent, individually-tailored training techniques that can improve overall performance and prevent injury. In addition, Kolarcik will also be tasked with ensuring that the club is doing everything in its power to maximize the inherent advantage that comes with playing at altitude.”
Padraig Smith feels that “bringing in Chad is an important step for us as a club. Sports Science is a critical aspect of the modern game, and Chad’s work in this league speaks for itself. We’re confident he will play a crucial role in ensuring all our players reach their highest potential.”
Kolarcik earned a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics and economics from Duquesne University, is currently working on a Master’s degree in exercise science, and holds a US Soccer “D” Coaching License.
