Game Preview & How to Watch: Colorado Rapids vs NYCFC

The Rapids return home after getting their first away win in Houston last weekend.

On Saturday, September 16th, the Colorado Rapids will play host to New York City FC at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm MDT and the match will be broadcast on Altitude. NYCFC will visit the Rapids for only the second time in their team history.

The Colorado Rapids look to build on their victory over Houston Dynamo, which turned out to be their first road win of the season. NYCFC will provide a solid home test as the Bronx side are firmly in a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference at the moment and have 50 points on the season. NYCFC are co-owned by Yankee Global Enterprises and City Football Group, who also own Manchester City.

Colorado (7-16-4, 25 points) are still bottom of the Western Conference, but got their first victory since July 1st with a 1-0 win at Houston last Saturday. Stefan Aigner had a great cross to Dominique Badji in 2nd half stoppage time and the former Boston University product blasted home from close range as the Rapids claimed an uplifting victory.

NYCFC (15-8-5, 50 points) are doing well in a crowded Eastern Conference. Toronto FC are in first place by a long shot but the Boys in Blue have been consistent all season long and look certain to qualify for the MLS postseason. On September 9th, NYCFC lost 1-0 to the Portland Timbers at Yankee Stadium. Portland maestro Diego Valeri scored the lone goal of the game.

Rapids interim coach Steve Cooke has to be thrilled with his first victory at the helm, but lots of work remains for the team to finish the season respectably. Also, with only a few home games remaining, the fans will understandably need motivation to come out and support a team that has been near the bottom of the league for most of the season.
