On Saturday, September 2nd, the Colorado Rapids will travel to Carson, California to play the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center. Kickoff is set for 9:00 pm MDT and the match will be broadcast on Altitude.
The Colorado Rapids are looking for their first win since early July and the LA Galaxy are winless in their last ten matches, including being shut-out in their last four home fixtures. It’s been a tough summer for both Western Conference foes, especially given the fact that these two sides played each other in last year’s Western Conference Semi-finals.
Colorado (6-15-4, 22 points) are coming off a frustrating 4-1 loss at Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. Josh Gatt scored the lone goal for the Rapids and both teams found themselves with 10 men each to finish the game. Rapids forward Alan Gordon was given his marching orders after receiving a second yellow card in the second half. Tim Howard made several impressive saves before the wheels came off very late in the game.
LA Galaxy (6-14-5, 23 points) are coming off a 3-0 loss at the StubHub Center to the San Jose Earthquakes. Valeri Qazaishvili, Marco Urena, and Chris Wondolowski all scored to condemn LA Galaxy to their 14th loss of the campaign. Ureña scored two goals for Costa Rica against the United States national team in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying on Friday night.
The Colorado Rapids will be without Tim Howard and Mekeil Williams due to World Cup Qualifying, but Zac MacMath is available after being out for the past few weeks with his knee surgery. Stefan Aigner could potentially find himself in the squad but it is still unclear if the German attacker is match-fit enough to see the field.
LA Galaxy are without Giovani dos Santos and his brother Jonathan dos Santos, and recently lost stellar defender Jelle van Damme, who went back to play in his home country, Belgium.
With a win, the Rapids would leapfrog the Galaxy and off the foot of the Western Conference.
