On Wednesday, August 23rd, the Colorado Rapids head to the Rose City to take on the Portland Timbers at Providence Park. Kick-off is at 8:30 MT and the match will be broadcast on Altitude.
The last time the two teams met in Colorado in June, Alan Gordon put in a late header to put up the Burgundy Boys 2-1. Since then, the Rapids are yet to pick up an away win and Portland has climbed the standing to a solid 4th place in the West. The Rapids haven’t won since July 1st, but have managed to pick up a couple draws on the road.
With the recent firing of head coach Pablo Mastroeni, this will be interim head coach Steve Cooke’s first away fixture and second match in charge. Last week, the Rapids lost 1-0 to DC United thanks to an own goal. The Timbers are coming off a 2-0 home win vs. the New York Red Bulls last weekend.
The Rapids are 1-6-0 in recent years in Portland, and this is the first of what will be a difficult four-game road trip.
