Sam Hamilton loaned to Phoenix Rising FC

The Rapids have sent him to play for the USL side in Arizona.

While the big news of the day was the Dillon Powers trade, something else happened that seemed to fly under the radar - rookie Sam Hamilton has been loaned to USL side Phoenix Rising FC. Also known as “Drogba’s Team”, Hamilton will be joining Omar Bravo, Shaun Wright-Phillips, and Didier Drogba in the Valley of the Sun.

The Right to Recall was part of the agreement, which means the Colorado Rapids can get Hamilton back anytime they want during the rest of the regular MLS season.

Hamilton was signed by the Rapids after being selected in the first round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft (15th overall).

Phoenix is currently 10th in the USL Western Standings (out of 15) and is two spots below the playoff line, with a record of 7-7-4 and 25 points. Phoenix and Orange County SC (who is just above them in the standings) have played the fewest games in the entire league.

Good luck Sam, and we hope to see you back in burgundy soon!

Phoenix is coming to Colorado to play the Switchbacks on September 9th. The Rapids are in Houston that day, so go on down and support some USL soccer! (Thanks for the heads up, Eric!)
