The Colorado Rapids posted today that backup goalkeeper Zac MacMath had a successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus. It’s not clear when or how MacMath sustained this injury, and the Rapids did not offer any more information.
MacMath has played in seven regular season matches this season - basically whenever Tim Howard is unavailable. Howard is playing in the 2017 MLS All-Star game tomorrow, so we’ll see if he features on Saturday. If not, John Berner will get his chance between the sticks at home vs. Vancouver Whitecaps.
Rest up Zac and get well soon!
UPDATE 8/2: The Rapids told us that the meniscus has been an issue for the “last 3-4 weeks, but he was able to play through while Tim was away at Gold Cup.”
