The fans have spoken, and they chose the Secretary of Defense. In fan voting conducted at mlssoccer.com, Colorado Rapids keeper Tim Howard was selected for the 2017 MLS All-Star team. This years match will be played in Chicago on August 2nd, as the best players in MLS will take on Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid, fresh off of winning the UEFA Champions League.

For Howard, it will be his fourth All-Star match, but third as an MLS All-Star; Howard appeared in 2001 and 2002 for the NY/NJ Metrostars, and in 2009 for Everton FC. Only the first eleven players, selected by the fans, have been named. All-Star coach Veljko Paunovic will choose another eleven players, and MLS Commissioner Don Garber will select the final two.

Not to be outdone, Rapids fullback/midfielder Marlon Hairston was named to EA Sports FIFA 17’s ‘Team of the Week’ for Week 42, on the heels of scoring a brace for the Rapids in the Saturday, July 1 contest against the Houston Dynamo.

The award goes to the 18 best players of the week in nearly every league on the planet. The award means that a special upgraded card will be available in packs in the FIFA’s Ultimate Team mode of the game, with Hairston getting a boost to an overall score of 70, a boost from his card’s normal value of 65. Most notable for FUT fanatics is Marly’s boost to an 87 pace, which will make him especially dangerous.

To round out the many honors, Hairston, Howard, and Dominique Badji were all featured in MLS’ Team of the Week for week 17, off of their stellar performances against the aforementioned Dynamo.
