Summer Transfer Window: What’s going on with everyone else?

Still no news out of Colorado. So what are our conference rivals up to?

MLS: Houston Dynamo at Colorado Rapids Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Although there are rumors that the Colorado Rapids plan to make moves on a domestic player and foreign player as early as this week, we’ve still heard zilch. Zip. Nada.

Which makes me wonder... what is everyone else in the Western Conference up to? Turns out, not much. There are a few rumors about some big names floating around, but for the most part, it’s been a pretty quiet start for the summer transfer window (at least in the West).

MLS Analyst Matt Doyle recently wrote about what all the teams need, now let’s see what they’re actually doing.

FC DALLAS

Sounds like Budesliga side Hoffenheim is interested in defender Walker Zimmerman. Zimmerman has had MCL issues, but has done well for Dallas and made his first US National Team appearance in January. REPORT

HOUSTON DYNAMO

Houston has signed USL midfielder Charlie Ward, and are supposedly getting 22-year-old Argentine midfielder Tomas Martinez from SC Braga. REPORT

Houston gave up the #1 spot in the allocation order to DC United for (probably) a big chunk of change. DC signed former Rapid Deshorn Brown from the Tampa Bay Rowdies, and now Columbus Crew are at the top of the order.

LA GALAXY

They’ve signed Dutch defender Pele van Anholt, and the right fullback will likely compete for a starting position.

They have been tied to Yura Movsisyan (though they say aren’t interested in him - read more in the RSL section below).

The Galaxy has “expressed interest” in Andre-Pierre Gignac, a forward for Liga MX’s Tigres. He’s won the Golden Boot and Liga MX Best Player award. It was later reported that any potential deal was dead, but you never know.

MINNESOTA UNITED

There’s a rumor that former Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindgaard could end up in Minnesota.

It’s also been said that the Vancouver Whitecaps are shopping around defender Christian Dean, and Minnesota is a potential suitor for him.

Fifty Five One reported that the NY Red Bulls may loan Minnesota forward Brandon Allen for the rest of the 2017 season. REPORT

PORTLAND TIMBERS

Univision reported that Diego Chara is trying to talk his younger brother into joining the Timbers. Yimmi Chara (26 years old) currently plays for Monterrey in Liga MX, and can play winger or attacking midfielder. REPORT

At the end of May it was announced that the Timbers signed Larrys Mabiala, a Congolese center back. He wasn’t able to join the team until the summer transfer window opened, but he would fill a hole made when Gbenga Arokoyo went out for the season. He is currently listed on their roster. REPORT

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES

The Quakes signed 24-year-old attacking midfielder Valeri Qazaishvili to a Designated Player contract. REPORT

SEATTLE SOUNDERS

It’s been reported on Twitter that defender Roman Torres is looking to leave the team, which is interesting because he’s an integral part of the Sounders’ defense.

Interesting given the news above, the Sounders signed 27-year-old Dutch defender Kelvin Leerdam, pending his P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate. REPORT

At the end of June, there was a tweet about the Sounders putting in an offer for Paraguayan forward Derlis Gonzalez, but no word on whether or not he has accepted the offer.

SPORTING KANSAS CITY

Dom Dwyer is either up for a big payday or he’s heading to Europe. He turned down a contract extension at the beginning of the season, and now that he’s a hotshot on the USMNT, he’s got a little more to bargain with. And apparently SKC doesn’t mind. Sporting Director of Player Personnel Brian Bliss told Ives Galarcep of Goal.com that "if somebody comes with a good offer that makes sense for the club then we're certainly going to let Dom go. We're not averse to transferring him, but it's got to make sense for everybody." REPORT

REAL SALT LAKE

Yura Movsisyan could be on the move. He’s from Southern California, but apparently LA Galaxy is “not interested” in him. Movsisyan currently leads the team in goals with six for the season so far. REPORT

RSL has also been linked to Chilean and Buraspor midfielder Cristobal Jorquera in a move that doesn’t make a ton of sense for the team because they need to bolster their defense. REPORT

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS

As mentioned above, the Whitecaps are looking to move defender Christian Dean, who has been plagued with injuries and has made 12 appearances in four seasons. They figure Minnesota will take him off their hands. REPORT

They’ve also loaned forward Kyle Greig to FC Cincinnati for the rest of the 2017 season. REPORT

Supposedly Vancouver has put in a significant bid for Canadian international midfielder Atiba Hutchinson, who is currently playing for Besiktas in Turkey. REPORT
