On Saturday, July 1st, the Colorado Rapids will play host to Houston Dynamo at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm MDT and the match will be broadcast on Altitude.
The Colorado Rapids look to halt a two-game losing streak in Major League Soccer on Saturday night against Houston Dynamo. The game could be a welcome boost for the Rapids as Houston are winless on the road in 2017 with a record of 0-6-2. Despite Colorado’s place at the foot of the Western Conference table, a win could place them just three points back from a playoff spot.
Colorado (5-10-1, 16 points) are coming off a disappointing US Open Cup road loss to FC Dallas on Wednesday at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Micheal Azira tallied for the Rapids but the Texan side was too much for Colorado after injuries sustained by Shkelzen Gashi, Axel Sjoberg, and Dillon Powers forced the trio to exit the game early. The Rapids also lost their league match on June 24th away at Atlanta United by a slim score of 1-0.
Houston (6-3-7, 25 points) are coming off a 2-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City in the US Open Cup. Ike Opara and Gerso Fernandes both scored in the second half to lead SKC to victory at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. On Friday, June 23rd, the Dynamo earned a 1-1 draw against FC Dallas at home. Dynamo Designated Player Erick Torres scored for the home side while Maximilano Urruti scored for the visitors. Houston are coached by former Rapids assistant Wilmer Cabrera.
The Rapids have a few more matches to go until the league break during the group stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Colorado earned some solid home wins in June but will need to get a positive result at home as Independence Day will see the Rapids play host to the Seattle Sounders at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Bobby Burling is not expected the feature while Shkelzen Gashi, Axel Sjoberg, and Dillon powers are all questionable with injuries sustained on Wednesday in Dallas. Azira is also suspended for the match because of yellow card accumulation.
Meanwhile, Houston have a thin squad as Alberth Elis, Boniek Garcia and Romell Quioto are all with the Honduras National Team. DeMarcus Beasley is questionable with a thigh injury.
If you are heading out to DSGP for the match, stick around afterwards for a fireworks show!
