US Soccer, the Colorado Rapids, Food Bank of the Rockies, Coca-Cola, and Century21 are hosting a food drive in the days leading up to the 2018 World Cup Qualifier on June 8. There are several donation locations around Denver, and when you donate, you can enter a raffle to win tickets to the United States vs. Trinidad and Tobago match.
Summer is an especially important time for food banks, as children are out of school and many families can’t afford three meals a day on their own. One in four households in Colorado don’t always have enough money for food, and if you can’t donate items to the food back, you can also donate here. Just $1 covers four meals, so even a couple bucks can make a big difference.
If you are able to donate a nonperishable item, you can find more information about the drop-off locations here.
The food drive ends Wednesday, June 7th at noon, and the ticket winner will be announced at the Coca-Cola Soccer Legend’s Happy Hour at Celtic on Market between 6:30-7:30 p.m. According to the US Soccer website, “the winner does not have to be present to win, and only one entry per person per household is permissible. No purchase or donation is necessary to enter.”
Suggested donation items include:
- Peanut Butter
- Canned Vegetables
- Canned Stews/Chili
- Canned Soups
- Canned Tuna
- Easily prepared boxed dinners
They can’t accept the following:
- Baby food in glass jars
- Perishable items
- Anything home-baked or home-canned
- Food that is months past the use by date
- Opened or damaged items (more than a dime sized dent, not on a seam or rim)
