On Saturday, June 3rd, the Colorado Rapids will welcome the Columbus Crew to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm MST and the match will be broadcast on Altitude.

The Colorado Rapids have been preparing for their league match against the Columbus Crew with some notable absences: goalkeeper Tim Howard and defender Mekeil Williams. Both players are on national team duty with the United States and Trinidad & Tobago, respectively. Both national sides will face each other in a 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier next Thursday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Colorado (3-8-1, 10 points) are still at the foot of the Western Conference, but can take solace from the fact that they have won two straight home games. Last Saturday, the Rapids were victorious against Sporting Kansas City by a score of 1-0. Colorado rookie defender Kortne Ford scored his first league goal early in the game and that was all the Rocky Mountain side needed, despite being outplayed for large portions of the match.

Columbus (7-7-1, 22 points) currently find themselves in a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Ohio side recorded an impressive home win over the Seattle Sounders in a mid-week match on Wednesday. Federico Higuain, Justin Meram, and Ola Kamara all found the score sheet as Columbus condemned Seattle to their 6th defeat of the season. Crew goalkeeper Zach Steffen recorded four saves in the shutout victory.

Colorado will also be without the services of Bobby Burling as the veteran defender will be serving a one-game suspension (though he will be partnered up with Conor McGahey as an analyst on Altitude). Nana Boateng is still dealing with back problems while Axel Sjoberg and Jared Watts are both listed as questionable. Also, Tim Hinchey has stepped down as President and has accepted a position as President and CEO of USA Swimming in Colorado Springs, CO. Hinchey has been with the Rapids since 2011.

Make sure you get to the game early as Conor Casey will be inducted into the Rapids’ Gallery of Honor, and stick around afterwards for even more soccer—a Special Olympics game!
