Round 16 was a mixed bag for most, with scores all over the place. A lot of close to average point totals from players you wouldn’t expect.
The best thing about this week was in real life, though - another Colorado Rapids comeback win! It seems like every time I lose, the Rapids win, so hopefully I don’t win anymore this year.
BW League Standings after Week 16
Sin City FC jumped back into the top 10 this week, by relying on four Toronto F players and naming Sebastian Giovinco as his captain. No Name MLS leapfrogged into the 5th position, riding on two goals from David Villa. (No Name MLS scored 45 points from their front line alone!) Rapids BR grabbed the highest score this week at 107. Putting the captain’s armband on Villa really paid off for our Brazilian fan.
Going into round 17, I’m wondering if Bad and Badji can close the gap on Holy Shipp? Blue Suede Sjoberg is only one point back from the top 10, can he jump back into winning form? Having eight teams playing twice this week is the perfect opportunity for making up ground.
There was no change in the top four this week, but a bunch of change right behind the leaders. FC Dachshunds is slowly and quietly climbing the table, with a big win this week. IC Kickers is back in the top five with a 12-1-2 record, the Kickers are in striking distance of Draftkicks. I myself lost another close matchup... by one point... again!
Looking to next week, keep an eye on Los Pollos Hermanos as Alan looks to take down Draftkicks. These are two very tough teams, so it should be a good one!
David Villa scored twice in a swamp this week. He took advantage of the conditions and the extra space given to him from the new formation (not to mention a soft penalty call). Villa has now scored 51 goals for New York City FC and doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. That being said, NYCFC is only playing once this week, so you might be better off looking somewhere else this round.
Blerim Dzemaili played 88 minutes for the Montreal Impact against Orlando City FC this week, and scored a goal and had an assist in the 3-3 thriller. Džemaili hasn’t produced much this season, but with 13 points against a good Orlando team and eight against New York, hopefully Džemaili will be a good differentiation player in the coming weeks.
Lee Nguyen of the New England Revolution didn’t have the greatest showing this week, with only six points. He did make a contribution to the score sheet, but because the ball bounced around in the box, Nguyen did not get credit for the assist. In the last 20 minutes, Nguyen missed a fairly easy shot and his teammates couldn’t finish in front of goal. Nguyen has been a very consistent choice this season, but this week the bounces just didn’t go his way.
Jimmy Medranda came into the game late and only played 22 minutes for Sporting Kansas City. He did have some good combination play with Dom Dwyer, but the shot was easy for San Jose to defend. Medranda only registered a single point and was selected by 26% of teams Jimmy is solid but Sporting Kansas City only has one game this week and it’s on the road. Look elsewhere this round.
Round 17 starts on Wednesday, June 21 (aka TODAY), so lock in your lineups by 5:30 MDT. There are also four midweek games to look forward too, so be ready! Check the injury report, expect the coaches to rotate some players, and follow us @burgundywave.
Good luck and go ‘Pids!
