On Saturday, June 17th, the Colorado Rapids will play host to the Portland Timbers at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm MST and the match will be broadcast on Altitude.
The Colorado Rapids will look to keep their home winning streak going against the Portland Timbers at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The Rapids have won three straight league matches at home - four in a row if you count the US Open Cup victory over USL side Oklahoma City Energy FC on Tuesday. Also, the United States recently played a 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier on June 8th as the Men’s National Team were victorious over Trinidad & Tobago by a score of 2-0.
Colorado (4-8-1, 13 points) are still at the bottom of the Western Conference, but the Rapids can take solace from the fact that they have had great form recently at home. Unfortunately, defender Bobby Burling was injured during the first half of the US Open Cup match against Oklahoma City Energy. He sustained a foot injury that will keep him out of action for the next 4-6 weeks.
Portland (7-5-3, 24 points) are near the summit of the Western Conference after defeating FC Dallas at Providence Park on June 10th. The Timbers were one of the few MLS teams to play a league match during the international break, and Fanendo Adi scored both goals to lead the Cascadian side to victory over the visiting Hoops. The Timbers have lost their last three road games, though, having only scored one goal in that span.
The summer transfer window cannot open soon enough for the Rapids. While the Rocky Mountain side have dealt with injury problems this season, their back line will once again be make-shift as Bobby Burling will be out for at least a month. Nana Boateng and Shkelzen Gashi are both dealing with lingering injuries, so it’s not likely that they will feature tomorrow night, but they are on the “questionable” list.
For Portland, former Whitecaps winger Darren Mattocks has an adductor issue while Jeff Attinella is dealing with a hamstring injury.
A win over Portland could see the Rapids leap-frog Real Salt Lake (4-10-2, 14 points) to get out of last place in the Western Conference.
