What to Watch This Weekend: Bleeding Burgundy is a Commitment Edition

In the race to 50 points, there is work to do. But all is not lost

MLS: Real Salt Lake at Colorado Rapids Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Some numbers to start our What to Watch This Weekend segment :

1.85: That is the figure, in points per game, the Colorado Rapids will need to average to make the playoffs.

27: That is the number of regular season games left

172: The number of days left in the season

Whew...that is a lot of time. It doesn’t seem like the time to write pithy letters or alienate folks due to a poor start by the team. Bleeding Burgundy is a commitment and it’s not time to give up or take it out on the players. Support this team, in good and in bad.

Here is what I am watching this weekend:

Major League Soccer

Colorado Rapids vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC—Friday, 8:00 PM MDT

I get it. You are frustrated. You are pissed. I totally get it. But when you take a look at the schedule, I could have told you the start of the season was going to be tough. Going to Kansas City, New York, Orlando City and playing your rivals were always going to be tough propositions. Have the Rapids under performed? Yep. But is the season lost? Nope.

This feels like a game to get back on track. I hope.

Seattle Sounders FC vs Toronto FC—Saturday, 1:00 PM MDT

A rematch of MLS Cup 2016, albeit in Seattle. Both of these teams are playing like squads that have long playoff runs in them and on a Saturday afternoon, this feels like a great match to enjoy with a pint.

Real Salt Lake vs FC Dallas—Saturday, 7:30 PM MDT

Our two biggest rivals take on each other to end the day with RSL still finding itself after a coaching change and the Hoops have yet to lose this season. This feels like a Dallas win, but eventually they will lose a game. (Right?)

English Premier League

Hull City vs Sunderland—Saturday, 8:00 AM MDT

There are two games in the Premier League that I am really looking forward to this weekend and this is the first. I love a good relegation scrap and while Sunderland has already booked their spot in the Championship, Hull has a very good chance at avoiding it. They control their destiny and they take on a relegated side at home. Have to think Hull wins this one.

Swansea City vs Everton—Saturday, 10:30 AM MDT

Swansea City has to find a result. They are two points from safety and Hull is the team in front of them. Everton is a side that recently qualified for Europa League in 2017-2018, and may not have much to play for. Swansea simply has to win.

United Soccer League

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC vs Portland Timbers 2—Friday, 7:00 PM MDT

It’s been an up and down season for the Switchbacks and they come into this one with a 2-2-3 (9 points, +1 GD) and have yet to find their form. Timbers 2 come in with a 1-6-0 (3 points, -7 GD) and are really struggling in all facets of the game. This should be a win for Colorado Springs, but I have said that before and it has not happened.
