Saturday was a great game for Kortne Ford. He contributed to the Colorado Rapids’ win on both ends of the field: Ford scored the game’s only goal and killed it on defense. Ford dedicated his first professional goal to his mom, and nearly had a second when he headed a corner kick right at Sporting Kansas City’s goalkeeper.
After the game, Pablo Mastroeni commented about Ford’s play and commitment to the team:
“He comes in every day and works extremely hard and asks a lot of questions. He’s just absorbing a lot of information. I think what you saw tonight has nothing to do with that,” Mastroeni said. “It has everything to do with heart. It has everything to do with commitment. It takes everything to understand that in life there are greater challenges and he’s blessed to be able to play football. I think tonight was an exemplary performance from a young man who can goes as far as he believes.”
Congrats to Kort for his first goal and first MLS Team of the Week honor. I’m sure there will be many more
