Later today, the Colorado Rapids play Sporting Kansas City at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Kickoff is set for 6:00pm Mountain Time and the match will be broadcast on Altitude.

The Rapids look to bounce back from a road trip that saw the team lose two consecutive games. Colorado will return to the friendly confines of Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, where the last time they played at home they were victorious over San Jose. The Rocky Mountain side will face a Sporting KC team that has only won two league road games over the course of the last year.

Colorado (2-8-1, 7 points) are coming off a bizarre 2-1 loss at Philadelphia on May 20th. The Rapids took the lead from a brilliant early strike by Caleb Calvert, but it all went wrong in the second half. Kortne Ford was called for a penalty which looked harsh, but the rookie defender literally fell on the ball in the penalty area, giving the referee little choice but to point to the spot. Tim Howard was not able to stop C.J. Sapong from scoring the penalty. Calvert was then shown two yellow cards in quick succession for dissent and then entering the field of play before being waived back on by the referee, resulting in a red card. The Union then put the Rapids to the sword by scoring from a free kick courtesy of Haris Medunjanin.

Sporting KC (6-3-4, 22 points) is currently at the top of the Western Conference; however, the Kansas side most recently lost to the Vancouver Whitecaps at the BC Place by a scoreline of 2-0 on May 20th. SKC boast a pair of United States National Team players in Matt Besler and Graham Zusi, two of which could feature at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in USA’s World Cup qualifier next month against Trinidad & Tobago.

Rapids midfielder Nana Boateng was cleared to start jogging at practice this week, but will still be out today due to a back injury. Caleb Calvert is suspended for this match after his red card against Philadelphia, while Jared Watts is questionable with a calf injury. For Sporting, Dom Dwyer and Soony Saad are both listed as questionable. Colorado will have another home game next weekend against the Columbus Crew before the international break.
